When used together, a dose of each in a cup of water, beautiful things happen for our nervous system as each one plays a slightly different but complimentary role in calming our nervous system.  I like having them as separate tinctures because you may find a particular resonance with one and so use that one more and play around with dosages!

 

California Poppy: It is mild and gentle and can be taken throughout the day. This poppy does not contain opiates but does affect the opiate receptors of the brain allowing the body's natural ability to ward off pain, release tension and mildly sedate without becoming addictive or causing withdrawl. I turn to her when I am feeling frazzled and overwhelmed, when my body is aching and sore and to calm my mind before bed. Works well as a half dose in water for kids and teething toddlers

 

Catnip/Catmint:  Opposite to its effects on cats, Catnip is very calming to humans. It is known to relax both parent and child. I use it to help me fall asleep when I am feeling restless or spent too much time on my phone before bed.  I also use Catnip when I am having anxiety or dreading an interaction/obligation.

 

Oat: The mucilaginous properties of this plant help to line the myelin sheath which is what covers and bolsters our nerve endings and in turn, allows our nervous system to feel soothed. There is a reason for the expression, "My nerves are frayed!" This plant is my go to for sugar cravings and for calming addictive behaviors that rise up in me after bouts of stress or triggers. If you are withdrawling from nicotine, this plant is such a friend. I have found it helpful for burnout and depression as well
